Historical/Biographical Sketch
Cal Christensen started his basketball career at Macomber High School in 1942. He led the Craftsmen in scoring and to the sectional championship his senior year. Mr. Christensen also played on National AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) team that won a state championship. Mr. Christensen attended the University of Toledo and in his senior year (1949-1950) he set a Toledo 28 game scoring record with 313 points and an 11.2 point per game average.
In 1950, after a brief stint in the Army, Mr. Christensen was chosen 4th in the NBA draft by the Iowa based Tri-City Blackhawks. He later played for the Milwaukee Hawks and the Rochester Royals. In 1957, Mr. Christensen toured with the United States Stars, an exhibition team that played against the Harlem Globetrotters. Calvin Christensen died on August 31, 2011 at the age of 84.
Scope and Content Note
Collection includes many clippings documenting Cal Christensen’s basketball career, from his days at Macomber High School to his time at the University of Toledo and to his days when he played for three NBA teams in the 1950s. The collection is arranged in alphabetical order.
