Electrical Engineering Bachelor's Degree Overview
Electrical engineering is one of the largest departments in The University of Toledo’s College of Engineering.
Electrical engineers design, develop and operate devices, systems and practices that require in-depth knowledge of electricity. They have contributed to almost all modern inventions — from microchips and computers to medical devices and space-age satellite communications.
UToledo’s engineering program has an entrepreneurial focus. We give students the know-how to run with their ideas and inventions.
Electrical Engineering Bachelor's Degree Highlights
- Mandatory co-ops. UT is one of just eight universities in the U.S. to require engineering students to work in the field. These three semesters of paid experience make our graduates highly attractive to employers.
- Design experience. Hit the ground running your freshman year with a hands-on introductory design course. By senior year, you’re designing a solution or prototype for a real client.
- Entrepreneurial focus. Incoming freshmen receive special training on starting their own businesses and promoting their inventions and ideas.
- 24/7 access to 7 engineering labs.
- Accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
- Dual major or minor. Many UToledo electrical engineering students also complete a degree in computer science and engineering. Other students minor in business administration, mathematics and entrepreneurship.
- Top 20 grad school. The Princeton Review ranked UToledo’s engineering graduate school among the country’s best and among the top four in Ohio.

Internship Opportunities for Electrical Engineering Bachelor's Degree
UToledo engineering students are required to complete a minimum of three semesters of co-op experience. Our Career Development Center staff is dedicated to helping students find paid placements in 40 states and 34 countries. This full year of work experience gives our students a leg up in the job market.
Our EE faculty are active in research and encourage undergrads to join them in the lab.
Introduction to Engineering
We offer annual electrical engineering and computer science and engineering summer workshops to high school juniors and seniors. An “Introduction to Engineering” course is available to high school seniors during fall semester.
