The Department of Psychology Chair's Minority/Underrepresented Research Grant

In cooperation with the Diversity Committee, the Chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Toledo is offering a research grant for undergraduate minority/underrepresented students for the 2020-2021 academic year. One $500 award will be offered. Information on how to apply for the award is provided below.

REQUIREMENTS FOR tHE APPLICATION

  1. Applicants must be racial minorities, sexual/gender minorities, first generation college students, or persons with a disability (per APA) who are psychology majors.
  2. Applicants must be enrolled (full-time or part-time) at UT at the time of application and must have completed at least 24 credit hours (at least 12 of which are psychology credit hours) at the University of Toledo at the time of the application.
  3. Applicants must submit the following electronically: the application form, a one-page essay, a one-page research proposal, and a transcript of grades from the Registrar's Office.
  4. Recipient will be expected to present his/her research at the following year’s Departmental Research Showcase.

AWARD MONEY

  1. For the 2020-2021 academic year (i.e., spring 2021), the department chair (Dr. Kim Gratz) will award one $500 award. This is a non-renewable award.           
  2. Award money should be used for research-related expenses.
  3. If the recipient drops all classes during the reimbursement period, the appropriate reimbursed amount will be returned to the Department of Psychology.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR SELECTION

  1. Your one-page essay detailing why you are deserving of this award, addressing your commitment to diversity (e.g., involvement at the university and/or in your community), your background, and your career goals.
  2. Your one-page essay detailing your research proposal, including how you plan to spend the awarded amount (sample research proposal).
  3. Your GPA.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION MATERIALS IS MARCH 1, 2021.  INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
