Welcome to the Arts and Sciences Council

Who We Are:
"The Arts and Sciences Council shall serve as the legislative branch of the College. It shall act on all matters related to the authority granted to the Faculty in the Bylaws of the Board of Trustees, including academic policies, curriculum, academic programs, academic standards, and degree requirements" (Constitution of the College of Arts and Sciences, Article V, Section 1). Also, within the College of Arts and Sciences, "members of all appointive committees shall be named by the Dean with the advice of the Executive Committee of the Arts and Sciences Council" (Constitution of the College of Arts and Sciences, Article III, Section 3). A & S Council represents the faculty, students, and administration of the college. Currently there are 61 available positions on Council: 52 for full-time tenure and tenure-track faculty (12 at large and 40 department representatives); 2 for full time lectures; 5 from the Dean's office (the Dean, 3 associate deans, and 1 assistant dean); and 3 student representatives.

The next meeting of Arts and Science Council is Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in SU 2592. Click on "Upcoming Meeting Agenda" from the side menu to view the agenda. Click on "Meeting Schedule" from the side menu for the dates of the 2009-2010 meetings. Normally we meet on the alternate Tuesdays not used by Faculty Senate.

Meeting agenda and past minutes are e-mailed to all A & S College faculty to facilitate communications. Please let your Council representatives know your opinions and concerns. All are invited to attend Council meetings and, with permission, to address Council. Come observe YOUR A & S Council in action.
