Writing Across the Curriculum Course Approval Procedure

Timeline

  • All applications to designate a course as WAC must be presented to the WAC Committee no later than December 1 to assure they are processed for the following academic year.
  • The WAC committee will review and report on all applications by January 15.

Process

  • Faculty member is advised to review the information on the philosophy and pedagogy associated with writing across the curriculum available through the links on the WAC website to assure that their course incorporates WAC principles and strategies.
  • The WAC committee must review all new courses seeking the WAC designation before they can be submitted to the curriculum committee.
  • Faculty member must use the provided form to submit a course for WAC committee review.
  • That form must be submitted to the chair of the WAC committee for dispersal to committee members.
  • The faculty member submitting the proposal must contact the chair to schedule time at a WAC committee meeting to present their proposal, incorporate any necessary revisions, or withdraw the application.

Outcome

  • Courses awarded the WAC designation will be flagged in the catalog for students and advisors and reviewed on a regular basis to assure that they remain WAC.
