Research

Over the past decade, my interests have focused on improving the teaching of science, especially biology, at all levels. I have published articles and book chapters on teaching the "great books" of biology, ethical values in science, and evolutionary ethics, and I have worked with Scott Lee of the department of Physics and Astronomy in developing an interdisciplinary course on The Nature of Science. For 1998-2003 I am serving as a co-PI on the TAPESTRIES program, directed by Charlene Czerniak and Jodi Haney, the goal of which is to increase the quality of science education in all of the classrooms of the Toledo and Springfield public schools.
