There are two possible recognitions of excellence for seniors in The Department of Biological Sciences: 1) the outstanding student (highest GPA) award and 2) nomination by the department as the Dean's Medalist from Biological Sciences and consideration for recognition as the outstanding student from Arts and Sciences.

Each spring the College of Arts and Sciences requests nominations from each department for consideration as the Outstanding Arts and Sciences Undergraduate. Nominations are based on GPA, meritorious activities, honors and awards, and future career plans. Each departmental nominee is recognized with the Dean's Medal Award at a special Arts and Sciences commencement ceremony. One student is selected as the Outstanding A&S Undergraduate Award.
