The Department of Chemistry typically awards each entering graduate student an assistantship that includes a base stipend with complete waiver of tuition. For 2005-2006, the twelve-month base stipends will be $19,000 for Ph.D. students and $15,000 for M.S. students. Including the tuition waiver, the entire package is valued at approximately $42,000 for out-of-state students and $30,000 for in-state Ph.D. students. For highly qualified students, additional merit fellowships from $1,000 to $3,000 are available to supplement the base stipends. Thus, stipends of $22,000 are possible depending on the applicant's academic record. In order to receive strong consideration for a merit fellowship, an early application is recommended.
