Master of Arts: Literature Concentration
Master of Arts Paper
The master's paper, which should be between 20 and 30 pages, should not be considered a thesis in the traditional sense. It does not have to be an original or exhaustive contribution to scholarship. In most cases it will be a personal synthesis of scholarship and criticism on a particular literary work or problem.
The master's candidate must ask a faculty member to supervise the paper. After the topic has been approved, the candidate will prepare and submit the paper to that faculty member, no later than the third week of the semester in which the student intends to graduate. The faculty member will then forward the completed paper together with a report of his/her findings to the graduate adviser at least two weeks before graduation.
ONLY those students who began their study PRIOR to Fall 2008 may elect this option (in conjunction with the Old MA Written Exam).
