Faculty Development Fund Policy 2008 - 2009
Faculty Development Fund Form 2009-2010 PDF format, 13KB

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office provides Faculty Development Fund (FDF) support for faculty travel to conferences and professional meetings. Our goal is to support as much professional development through conference and meeting participation as possible. The fiscal year 2010 (beginning July 1, 2009) policy for FDF distribution is as follows. Please note that FDF allocations will be made twice during the year, in September and in December.

Eligibility
Tenured and tenure-track faculty who lack start-up funds or research funds that can support travel to conferences and professional meetings may apply. Support will be provided to applicants who have a place on the conference program, as a presenter, convener, discussant or program organizer.

Application Process
The application form is on the Arts and Sciences website. Applications will be reviewed twice during the 2010 fiscal year. Those planning travel between July 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 should submit their applications to the College office by September 15, 2009. Those planning to travel between January 1, 2010 and June 30, 2010 should submit their applications to the College office by December 1, 2009.

Allocations
Faculty may expect FDF support for no more than one trip during FY 2010. The (maximum) level of support for tenure-track faculty members will be 50% of the estimated costs. The maximum level of support for tenured faculty members will be 40% of estimated costs.

Competitive Review
Faculty who meet the eligibility requirements can expect some FDF support. However, if the number of requests exceeds fund availability, a review committee will be convened to rank applications based on the applicant's conference role, the competitiveness and significance of the conference itself and the chair's endorsement.

International Travel
Faculty members planning international travel must apply for Kohler funds as well as FDF. No FDF checks will be issued to international travelers who have not applied for Kohler funds as well. Kohler funds are awarded in mid-November and mid-March. Kohler funds are NOT assigned after travel is completed: application to Kohler must be made before anticipated travel.
