Justin Pfeifer, Ph.D. Student
Justin Pfeifer received his Bachelors
and Masters Degrees in History at the University of Toledo, and is currently in
the doctoral program.
During his Undergraduate career Justin was Vice President of the History Club
at UT for two years (2005-2007), and was a member of the History Department
Quiz Bowl team during those years as well. Inducted into Phi Alpha Theta in
April 2006, he was the recipient of the Andrew J. Townsend Award for
Outstanding Male History Major in 2007. During the 2007-2008 academic
year, Justin served as Historian for the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Phi Alpha
Theta. Justin was part of a group of students who researched campus portraiture
in Spring Semester 2006. The group presented a proposal that the UT
Diversity commission unanimously accepted to diversify that public art.
The first project of the Diversity Portraiture Initiative resulted in the Rocket
Hall Mural. Currently for the 2009-2010 academic year, he
is serving as Vice-President of Phi Alpha Theta.
The focus of his M.A.
program was in modern German history. He worked with Professor Larry Wilcox in
furthering his knowledge and understanding in that area. His Master’s thesis,
entitled “The Jewish-Bolshevik Untermensch:
German Soldiers’ Perceptions of the Soviet Union during the Second World War,”
explored the nature of Nazi ideology and wartime atrocities committed against
the Soviet Union.
As a Ph.D. student, he plans to continue studying
modern German history as his major field, with minor concentrations on East
Asian studies.
