Student Organizations

ALPHA EPSILON DELTA NATIONAL HEALTH PREPROFESSIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Alpha Epsilon Delta is a National Health Preprofessional Honor Society dedicated to the encouragement and recongition of excellence in preprofessional health scholarship. The Society welcomes ALL students engaged in the pursuit of a professional healthcare career. AED offers opportunities for intellectual and professional development, provides a forum for students with common interests, and extends a program of service to benefit the college/university community.  Alpha Epsilon Delta is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

UT's chapter of AED, Ohio Beta, was chartered in May 1947.  Students who have completed 3 semesters in the Pmed/Pdent/Pvet curriculum and have both a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 3.2 science GPA are invited to be initiated into the organization as a nationally registered member.  Students not yet eligible for inducation at the national level are Associate Members of the local chapter with meetings and activities open to all students pursuing careers in the health care professions.  Chapter activities include social events, community service projects, and informational meetings with a variety of guest speakers.

Another service AED provides its students is the opportunity for mentoring with a local physician through the mentorship program with the The Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County.

MINORITY ASSOCIATION OF PRE-MEDICAL STUDENTS

MAPS is the undergraduate organization of the Student National Medical Association, the oldest and largest student organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color.  UT COM’S chapter of SNMA worked with the UT undergraduate pre-med students to establish a local MAPS chapter on the main campus in 2008.  UT’s MAPS chapter provides programming to help students enhance their professional school application.  All students are welcome at chapter meetings.
