Chuck joined the Department of Theatre and Film in 1978 and served as department chair for six years. During his career at UT, he was the originator and managing director of the department's SUMMERSTAGE program which won the department an award from the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo. He held administrative positions with the American College Theatre Festival, the Ohio Theatre Association, served on the board of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre, and was also instrumental in the creation of P.A.C.T., the Performing Arts Council of Toledo, where he was co-artistic director of FIRST NIGHT TOLEDO from 1994 to 2002. Prior to coming to Toledo, he taught at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. While in Florida, he was assistant director of a U.S. government grant investigating the use of theatrical techniques in teaching the children of migrant workers. This work resulted in his authoring The Individualized Reader and becoming a consultant to several state migrant programs. He has directed over 150 productions professionally and for The University of Toledo. After 26 years of teaching and service at The University of Toledo, in 2000 he received the distinction of Professor Emeritus of Theatre. Chuck continues to direct community and professional theatre in the greater Toledo area.
