Charles Williams

Professor Emeritus
Theatre

Chuck joined the Department of Theatre and Film as Associate Professor of Theatre and Lighting Design in 1984, also serving as chair of the department from 1992-1997. During his distinguished career, he created well over 80 university designs and over 30 professional designs for theatre, ballet and opera, and was elected a Fellow of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology in 1978, receiving the USITT Founders Award for Service to the American Theatre in 1989. Prior to joining UT, he taught at Webster University, Carnegie Mellon University, San Francisco State University and the University of Calgary (Canada). Chuck received an MA in television production from Stanford University and followed it with doctoral study in theatre at Stanford University. After 17 years of service to The University of Toledo, in 2002 Chuck received the distinction of Professor Emeritus of Theatre. He continues to serve as a lighting and technical theatre consultant at theatres across the United States.
