FINA 4900
Student Managed Portfolio

This course is designed to give students a hands-on experience at performing investment research, investing money, and managing a portfolio prior to entering the work place.  It is available for three credits in the Fall.  However, the course encompasses both Fall and Spring semesters.  Students graduating at the end of Fall semester can take the class but will have a larger workload than two-semester students.  MBA students are also welcome to participate and will receive independent study credit (FINA 6750).  Students will be managing funds at the UT Foundation and the fiduciary responsibilities for managing these funds will be stressed.  Students are expected to generate investment ideas, research investment opportunities, and make recommendations based on their analysis.  It is the student’s responsibility to initiate ideas and to recommend specific investment actions.  Students will make presentations to the UT Foundation’s Investment Committee on a quarterly basis.  Students will be held to the same standards as professional portfolio managers.

Enrollment is limited and priority will be given to students that apply early.  FINA 3480, Investments, is a prerequisite.

Application for Student Managed Portfolio
Once the application deadline has passed, Dr. Gary Moore will review the applications and compile a list of candidates that will be accepted into the program if space permits.  Students will be notified as to whether they have been accepted into the program as soon as possible.
