What is the JumpStart Program?

This free four-day program is designed to provide incoming Neff College of Business and Innovation majors with a variety of activities focused on enhancing their academic and social skills. 

Participants will be able to meet other first-year students while experiencing a wide range of programming presented by UToledo faculty, staff, alumni and students, in addition to members of the greater Toledo community.

The primary goal of the JumpStart Program is to help new students adapt to college life and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a successful Business Rocket. This will be accomplished through:

  • Making lasting connections with other incoming freshmen
  • Meeting key University faculty and staff members
  • Becoming familiar with the campus layout, support services and academic enrichment possibilities
  • Participating in off-campus field trips
  • Gaining an early introduction to the college's facilities and technology tools
  • Engaging in a philanthropic and educational community service project

Program Activities to Expect this year:

  • Early Dorm Move-ins on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Meeting Anne Balazs, Dean of the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation
  • Tour and Panel Discussion at Local Area Businesses, Including Jupmode and Owens Corning
  • DiSC Profile Assessment
  • Scooter/Bike Rides
  • Toledo Mud Hens Game
  • Toledo Zoo Visit
  • Sandpiper Boat Cruise
  • Scavenger Hunt on the campus of The University of Toledo
  • Painting the UToledo Spirit Rock
  • Dinner at Stubborn Brother and The Blarney Irish Pub
  • Lunch from Chick-Fil-A, Subway and Phoenicia Buffet
  • UToledo Rec Center Activities
  • Mock Lecture with Dr. Gary Insch, Including a Business Case Analysis
  • Time Management Tips from Deirdre Jones, Director of the College's Edward H. Schmidt School of Professional Sales
  • Career Coaching with Craig Turner, Career Advisor & Employer Relations in the Neff College of Business and Innovation

REQUIREMENTS

  • To be considered for participation in the JumpStart Program, applicants must have a high school Grade Point Average of at least 2.4.
