Alexis Marok

I started an internship in human resources at MaritzCX in October, 2017, and will begin a new human resources internship at Owens Corning this May.

At MaritzCX I am involved with hiring people for our call center. I route candidate applications, prescreen and interview candidates, then decide if they move forward in the hiring process. I hold orientation for new hires, and work with other interns and my immediate supervisor to put together employee incentives and activities.

Throughout my time at MaritzCX I have been able to work with a lot of people in a lot of different situations. I have familiarized myself with many human resource practices, and I have been given many opportunities to be creative and take on many responsibilities. It has been challenging but amazing, and I have a much better understanding for human resources since the time I started.

This May I begin working as a human resource intern at the Owens Corning headquarters here in Toledo. Once I start, I will begin work on different projects depending on what team I work on and what their current needs are.

I did not start in the College of Business when I first came to Toledo. It took me a few changes to finally piece together what I was looking for and realizing that I could find that major in COBI. I selected human resources when I realized that I had a passion for working with others, but not in the medical field. Ever since my intro to HR class and my experiences through my job in Business Career Programs I knew that business was the right choice for me.

I am studying human resources with a minor in marketing. I selected this major because I have a strong passion for working with others. For a long time, I thought that I wanted to help others doing something in the medical field. After shadowing at a hospital and taking a few courses I realized that it was not exactly my cup of tea. I did a lot of research and talked to quite a few people and came upon human resources; I felt like it could not have been a better fit. The more I move along in my education and my internship I become more sure that I am in the right field.
