Michael Harders assumed the position of vice president for advancement in March 2017.

A fundraiser with more than 15 years of experience in higher education development, Harders leads The University of Toledo’s Division of Advancement, which includes Alumni Relations, Development, Marketing and Communications, and Special Events. The division was created in 2015 with the merger of Institutional Advancement and External Affairs.

Harders was formerly vice president of university advancement and development at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. From 2012-2017, he tripled the amount of annual support to the university with significant growth in annual giving, and increased alumni participation and donations.

Previously, he was executive director of development at Missouri State University, where he coordinated its “Our Promise” campaign, which exceeded its $125 million fundraising goal. He also was senior director of development at the Kansas State University Foundation.

Harders, who moved to Toledo with his wife, Leigh, and children, Josephine and Henry, earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Kansas State University.
