Mark Denham, Adviser

Degrees Offered

The International Relations program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Degree Requirements

The International Relations major is designed for students contemplating careers with businesses and institutions concerned with world affairs, area studies and substantive subjects such as development, the environment and security. The curriculum is planned to offer students a background in international affairs in the broadest sense with courses chosen from the social sciences and humanities. Within the general framework of the major, each student's program is designed in consultation with the adviser to meet the student's specific needs and interests.

The primary emphasis of the major is global, rather than regional, yet at the same time, the various regional studies programs, coordinated by the Center for International Studies and Programs, provide the student with the opportunity to apply general principles of the theory and methods to the content of a specific area. Accordingly, the student pursuing a major in International Relations is required to take courses from one of the programs of regional studies. A broad range of activities complement required course work, including seminars and conferences, as well as numerous study abroad options. All students in the International Relations major are encouraged to take advantage of these for short or long-term experience in the student's area of interest.

All requirements of The University of Toledo and the College of Arts and Sciences, as set out in this catalog, must be met. The following outline is for the general guidance of a student in planning a program of 48 hours of course work, in consultation with the adviser.
