The Academic Intranet at the UT Health Science Campus was initiated and prototyped in the winter of 1996/97. A technology grant awarded by the Ohio Board of Regents in June of 1997 helped to make this project possible.
The Health Science Campus Academic Intranet is a resource for UT students, faculty and staff as well as other members of the UT community. The Intranet provides web access to course materials, handouts, announcements, calendars, Usenet news groups, and online lectures. UT students can access the Academic Intranet on one of the many computers located on campus, dial into the UT modem bank, or access the Intranet through their own ISP. The UT modem bank was implemented in early 1998 by the Information Systems department as part of the Intranet initiative.
The Center for Creative Instruction is responsible for the design and implementation of the Academic Intranet servers, databases, development tools, as well as other third party products utilized with this system.
The Academic Intranet can be accessed to view the courses and topics offered at UT. A Demo section is included so that Internet visitors can review several of the presentations that have been developed by UT. Other pages on the Intranet are intended only for the UT community and are password protected.
