Dr. Mary A. Heinrichs has been dean of The University of Toledo's University College since June, 1977. This college enrolls over 1700 students annually. Almost twenty-five percent of their graduates continue to study at the graduate level.

The University College directs five established programs of study and the program of interdisciplinary studies. The majority of students take this opportunity to design a unique curriculum to meet their personal of career goals.

Having secured foundation and federal grants of over $75,000 to supplement the University's budget, Dr. Heinrichs initiated the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women and directed it for over ten years.

Dr. Heinrichs received her bachelor's degree in education magna cum laude from The University of Toledo in 1952 having transferred from Marygrove College. She received her Master's degree in 1965 being designated the first recipient of the outstanding Scholarship Award. Her doctorate was earned in 1973 from The University of Toledo with majors both in Higher Education and English.

She joined the faculty of the University Community and Technical College in 1967 being promoted through the ranks to full professor in 1973. While a professor, she has served on numerous committees and boards and was elected to the University Faculty Senate and the Ohio Faculty Senate. She has published a variety of articles in professional publications on education and communications topics, making many national and international presentations. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi national scholastic honorary, the Golden Key national scholastic honorary, pi Lambda Theta national education honorary, American Association of University Women, Professional Writing Consultants, Interdisciplinary Studies Association, and the Association of General and Liberal Studies.

She has been recognized by many international and national publications and organizations including many Who's Who publications. The Women in Communications Inc. named her Woman of Achievement in 1985.

Dr. Heinrichs has served as a consultant in communications to several industries as well as school systems. She has been a member of the Council on Family Violence of Lucas County, the st. Joseph's School Board, American Council of Education National Identification Program, the Ohio Academy of Science Committee on Educational Research, the legislative committee of the Association of Adult Educators, and the Women's Research Project of the community Planning Council.           

Dr. Heinrichs is married to Paul W. Heinrichs. Their four children are Paul Jr., John, Matt and Nancy.
