Recent Developments

While the center's concept and purpose has remained largely the same, changes in the outside world necessitate changes within the center. Programming and facilities have evolved to meet the needs of the woman of the 90s.

With the move to Tucker Hall and the development of the facilities there, new programs are available which reflect women's diverse roles within the community at large. One of the most notable is the cyberspace program, which centers around the development of computer skills for women, an important task in a field that has been dominated by men. A state-of-the-art computer resource room makes this technology available to any woman who wishes to learn, and programs are available for any Cybergirl, Virtual Woman, or Granny Hacker who wants to learn or share her skills.

Facilities

Other programming opportunities remain virtually the same. The Project Succeed program still runs today, helping to bring in students to the university and changing lives in the process. SAGE, a new program, was developed as the student equivalent to the Advisory Board in 1996. And at least once a month, volunteer speakers offer their insights during the lunch hour in the Brown Bag lunch series.
