dissimilarity

Dissimilarity index for toledo

This map uses data from the American Community Survey (2014), a U.S. Census Product.  This map shows the level of segregation at the Census Tract level. The higher the index number (shows in the legend on the lower right hand corner of the map) the higher the level of segregation in that tract. To compute the dissimilarity index you compare the racial distribution of population throughout the study area ( in this case it is the City of Toledo) and compare that to the distribution at the Census Tract level. The values in the legend can also be interpreted as percentages. For example, if a census tract falls in the .4 - .5 category, 40% - 50% of the population would need to be redistributed for the tract to fall within the racial distribution of the city as a whole.
