The Writing Center will provide one of two types of presentations about the Center's services for faculty requesting that information. The types of presentations are a "Writing Center Orientation" session, or a specialized workshop.
Writing Center Orientation sessions typically last 15-20 minutes. In order to acquaint students with our Center, our staff, and our services, we request, whenever possible, that faculty bring their classes to the Writing Center for the Orientation presentation sessions. Visiting the Center helps students to acclimate to the environment and atmosphere of a writing "studio" while introducing them to the tutors who will work with them and providing a visual acquaintance with computer and text resources for writing. Some faculty have combined a library tour or presentation with the Writing Center Orientation visit. Class size, time of day, length of presentation, and space availability will determine whether an on-site presentation is possible. When an on-site presentation cannot be scheduled, the Writing Center will work with the faculty member on scheduling a time when a tutor can visit his or her classroom for the presentation.
To schedule a writing center orientation for your classes, please contact us at x4939. Be prepared to tell us your name, contact information, course/section, the time and location of your class(es), and three possible dates that we can schedule your visit. A writing center representative will get back in touch with you about the orientation.
Specialized workshops are individually designed in consultation between the Writing Center Director and the faculty member requesting specific assistance. Such workshops vary in time and are targeted around a class-specific writing task. Examples of recent workshops include a portfolio project in education, summary/response papers in health and human services, PRAXIS workshop for teacher certification, and thesis workshop in liberal studies.
To schedule a specialized workshop, please contact us at x4939. A writing center representative will contact you for more information.
