UT's First Look+Listen
All students are asked to Look+Listen, as great works of contemporary art and music will become the foundation of inquiry and dialogue--and reading--about things that matter to our community and our region.
First Look + Listen Special Event - Ashley Kahn
Ashley Kahn presents a multi-media presentation and lecture on the Miles Davis album, Kind of Blue, described by music writers as the best-selling jazz album of all time. Kind of Blue is regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz album of all time and is at the top of numerous best album lists. The album's influence on music, including jazz, rock, and classical music, has led music writers to acknowledge it as one of the most influential albums ever made. In 2002, it was one of fifty recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. In 2003, the album was ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Event flyer (PDF)
Crib Notes: a new First Year Experience program of shared passions
Crib Notes will generate fun and even learning with UT faculty, staff and friends who will host informal, interactive and entertaining chats in the residence halls. They will be visiting students where they live to share their passions, interests and hobbies. Sparked by everything from visiting with rescued dogs to crafting to apocalyptic literature, lots of great discussions will happen in the halls. Students are welcome whether in their own hall or visiting their neighboring halls. Event schedule (PDF)
