Revenue Cycle

Patient Access

Patient Access is one of the first functions that patients encounter.  As such, it is the welcoming service for the organization and is key to excellent customer relations.

The Patient Access Department performs scheduling, insurance verification, registration and point of service collections for University of Toledo Medical Center’s admissions, surgeries, physician office visits, laboratory and radiology services as well as other select outpatient services. Patient Access coordinates all phases of the revenue cycle from scheduling, pre-registration and point of care registration. The Patient Access Department is responsible for interviewing/pre-registering patients at the time of or prior to their visit date and for inputting demographic and insurance information into the system to initiate a medical record, physician communication and billing. We confirm insurance benefits with various online verification systems or through telephone inquiries. We also generate and complete all applicable forms for each visit such as general consents and HIPAA privacy notification and collect appropriate documentation for managed care programs regarding referrals and authorizations.

Patient Access Department provides Education & Training on McKesson Star system. In addition, we offer training courses for registration staff, health care professionals, and leadership on subject matters such as Point of Service Collections and Insurance Verification.
