Thermo Fisher Scientific is the University’s preferred supplier of scientific and healthcare laboratory, products and services; specialty diagnostic; analytical instruments and life science solutions.  Purchases from this supplier include equipment and instruments, life sciences, glass and plastics, chemicals, lab appliances, lab essentials, biological and diagnostics, gloves and apparel, as well as safety, furniture and related services.

Offering over 800,000 products, Thermo Fisher Scientific provides quality items at minimal price points with their Fisher brand, as well as access to a broad product portfolio representing various 3rd party strategic suppliers.   This enables the University to obtain lab expertise, customer solutions, lab focused service and logistics and specialized lab sourcing opportunities, all from one supplier, making Thermo Fisher the University’s primary contact for all lab related needs.

Accessing the IUC/OSU preferred vendor agreement, the University is able to purchase scientific supplies based upon pricing structure negotiated by IUC/OSU. This represents, on average, a savings of 36% off list price.  Since core item usage by institution varies, the University is also able to negotiate additional savings on specific core items, so departments having core item needs met by alternate suppliers are encouraged to contact Purchasing to see if additional discounts can be made available via Fisher.

In addition to cost savings, the IUC/OSU contract offers other benefits to the University including free freight (regular delivery, non-3rd party orders), scheduled deliveries, electronic ordering capability, electronic payment processing, no hassle returns and no restocking fees.  We also have 2 dedicated reps on campus weekly – 1 focused on healthcare, the other on scientific related needs.

Order Placement

  • Orders under $5,000 are made utilizing University p-card on the Fisher Scientific website – NOTE: University staff members must be linked to University account in order to obtain contracted pricing.  To obtain this link, staff members must first create online profile by going to Fisher Scientific website; click on “My Account” in upper right hand corner (next to shopping cart); click on “Register for an Account” from the drop down menu then enter required information.  After profile is submitted, staff member must then contact the Fisher sales rep (Scientific) so that contract can be linked to their individual user profile.  Failure to contact Fisher rep after online profile has been created will allow University staff member to access Fisher site and place orders; however, discounted pricing will not be applied to orders, as contract was not linked appropriately.

  • Orders over $5,000 and/or containing capital equipment require the creation of a University purchase order per University Policy.  Once a quote has been obtained from the Fisher rep, the department must create an electronic requisition in the appropriate system (Banner or Lawson). The quote must be uploaded to ereq or provided to Purchasing then a purchase order will be created and issued to Fisher.
