Project EC-NET: Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT)

The special education program area in the Judith Herb College of Education is pleased to inform you about Project EC-NET. This is a grant project supported by the U.S. Department of Education.

One of the goals of Project EC-NET is to assist Intervention Specialists (grades 7-12) in meeting Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status through the acquisition of subject matter competence in core academic content areas. Through this work, you will be able to satisfy the HQT requirements under NCLB and the Ohio Status Sheets. The content areas are English/LA, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. Teachers will choose the subject area based on their teaching assignment.

A series of two classes (3 semester hours each) are offered each spring and summer semesters. In Spring term 2010 (January 11 – May 7) a job-embedded web-based class will be conducted for each content area. The focus for these classes is on methodology and curriculum. This will be followed by a summer workshop. In Summer 2010, the classes will focus on content knowledge in each core content area.

We are currently accepting applications for the Spring 2010 courses, with a limited number of spaces available.
