Prior to becoming Interim Dean for the Judith Herb College of Education at the University of Toledo, Dr. Tom Brady was Chairman and CEO of Plastic Technologies, Inc. The PTI companies employ more than 200 people worldwide and are recognized for expertise in plastic packaging, plastics technology development and plastics recycling. Other PTI companies include Phoenix Technologies International LLC, Preform Technologies, LLC, PTI–Europe, PTI Investment Associates, PETWall, LLC, Minus-9 Plastics and The Packaging Conference, LLC, a joint venture company which organizes international technical conferences.
Prior to founding PTI, Dr. Brady was Vice President of Plastics Technology for Owens-Illinois, Inc. where he directed the technical activities for all of O-I’s plastic product lines.
Dr. Brady sits on the Ohio Governor’s Third Frontier Advisory Board, and served as a Trustee for The Medical University of Ohio and the New University of Toledo from 2005 to 2009. He remains active in the Society of Plastics Engineers, the International Plastics Processing Society, and the American Chemical Society, and serves on the boards of the Ohio Polymer Strategies Council, the Regional Growth Partnership, the Toledo Symphony, and SSOE, an internationally recognized architectural and Engineering firm.
Dr. Brady also serves on the Advisory Boards for The Materials Science Department at the University of Michigan, UT’s Innovation Enterprise Corporation, and both the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toledo.
Dr. Brady was a founding board member of the Toledo Technology Academy, an innovative Toledo Public high school offering an integrated academic and technical education and which has consistently ranked as one of Ohio’s top high schools.
Dr. Brady also serves on the board for the Toledo School for the Arts which serves children who fall outside the mainstream of public education. Today, TSA ranks as one of Ohio’s top high schools and has received national recognition.
Dr. Brady received BS and MS degrees in Engineering Science from Dartmouth College and earned his Ph.D. in Plastic Materials Engineering from the University of Michigan. He was recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year in 1989 and again in 2005, as Manager of the Year in 1996 and he and his wife, Betsy, were recognized jointly as Philanthropists of the Year in 2006. PTI received the Small Business Award in 1995, the Partner in Progress Award in 2001, the Employer’s Association President’s Award in 2006 and Phoenix Technologies received the Recycle Ohio and Edison Emerging Technology Company Awards in 2002.
Tom and Betsy have three married children and Tom spends his spare time playing the piano, restoring classic cars and in his wood shop with his grandchildren.
