About the College
Hello and welcome to the Judith Herb College of Education at The University of Toledo. I am Penny Poplin-Gosetti, Dean of the college of education.
We are extremely excited with the changes taking place on our campus and in our college. To meet the needs of the 21st century we continue to develop new programs, and advance our current nationally ranked teacher preparation programs. We want to insure our students are fully prepared to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges in the classroom.
With the start of the University of Toledo’s Jesup Scott Honors College, those that meet the qualifications, and choose a degree program within the college of education, will be part of a prestigious group that has opportunities for advanced classes and community projects, as well as earning the honor of preferred admission to any of our distinguished graduate and professional degree programs.
State-of-the-art classroom simulations, through avatar technology, allow our students to practice for the real world in the virtual world. Our students are able to test their competences by having the ability to experiment with lesson plans, and experience actual classroom scenarios presented. All of our students complete field experiences at the start of their program and many of our programs culminate in a full year of classroom teaching under the supervision of a mentor teacher and college faculty.
For those who are career changers and wish to become licensed teachers, we have graduate programs that allow you to earn your teaching licensure and a master’s degree in education. We have graduate programs for those that want to become administrators in schools, earn a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, or programs for those that want to become specialists in many other areas of education.
Our students, even after graduation, have the opportunity for continuous mentoring by our faculty and are invited to return to campus to engage with their peers and faculty discussing any issues they may be having in their own classrooms. We have also developed an online educational platform that allows students and educators to pose questions relating to any informative topics.
Community involvement is also a key element for our programs. Faculty works directly with the schools and teachers to insure we continue to develop our college curriculum, and to insure OUR students become extraordinary future educators and leaders.
I invite you to listen to the testimonials from our students as they share their experiences here in the Judith Herb College of Education. We encourage you to explore your options and contact the college for any questions you may have. You are always welcome to visit our campus, meet with professors or shadow a student.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you soon!
