Dr. Patricia Devlin has been a professor at The University of Toledo (UT) since 2002 and has focused her scholarly work on promoting positive outcomes for youth and adults with significant disabilities. Of specific interest has been the transition of this population into competitive employment within integrated settings. Dr. Devlin is the director of SCOUT (Securing Career Opportunities at UT), a program that has become a positive force in removing barriers for those who have traditionally found it difficult to gain access and maintain employment. SCOUT has been recognized as a best practice in community-based employment for individuals with disabilities. She also has established a Project Search classroom in the Judith Herb College of Education. the cornerstone of the one school-year internship is immersion in a large business or organization. Students from Penta Career Center with moderate disabilities learn employability and job skills leading to competitive employment while participating in a variety of work site rotations at The University of Toledo.
