The Licensure and Master's Program (LAMP) in Middle Childhood and Adolescent to Young Adult

The Middle Childhood and Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) LAMP are 1-year programs designed to be completed from August-June. Students also have the option of beginning the program in January, and completing it in 1.5 years. Education courses and classroom experiences work hand-in-hand to give students a strong grounding; research has shown that our LAMP students finish these programs with the skills and knowledge of 3rd year teachers.

Both programs are designed for the student who already holds a baccalaureate degree in a major other than education and wants to become a licensed teacher in the State of Ohio. Each provides coursework that will lead toward the initial teaching license and a Master’s degree in education.

In 2014 the Middle Grades and AYA LAMP programs received the award for Outstanding Field Experience from Ohio Association of Teacher Educators.

First Step:  Prospective students must submit an application for coursework review, and meet with the LAMP advisor. Any required content-area courses must be completed before you can begin the LAMP program. The deadline for the review of coursework is April 1; for those beginning in January, it is November 15.

Second Step: Applications for the 1-year LAMP program must be submitted to the Graduate School by May 1st. For those wishing to begin in January, applications are due October 1st. Students are required to complete an application interview as well.

Students must pass appropriate content exams as specified by the Ohio Department of Education prior to the start of the one-year sequence in August.
