Our family is not only honoring our father and grandfather, Robert Weinman, but also honoring his love for The University of Toledo. Many of our fondest childhood memories surround the stories Dad has told about growing up in Toledo and his cherished years spent as a “Rocket.”
Dad will gladly regale to anyone willing to listen, stories about his favorite professors within the College of Education, fraternity life, the sports and campus life in general during the 1950s. The education earned at Toledo served Dad well as after graduating with his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees he began a long and distinguished career with the Dayton Public Schools.
Our father is proud of all of his children and grandchildren, but he is always happy to tell people that there have been three generations of Toledo graduates. His daughter, Barbara, graduated with her degree in education in 1978 and his granddaughter, Rachel Shon, graduated from the College of Health Science and Human Service with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006.
Although Dad lives in Dayton, there isn’t one aspect of university life that he does not know about. Whether it’s the athletic schedules, yes, he is the one proudly flying The University of Toledo banner, or the designs for new buildings, if it is on the internet or University website, Dad will know!
It might be easy to say that there are other graduates who are proud of The University of Toledo and the education they received there, but in our family Dad is the #1 fan!
