Art Education at UT If you love art and working with children and young adults, this is the degree for you. In the art education program, you will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to become a teacher and artist. Art education majors experience exceptional learning opportunities both on campus and within the community. Located in the Center for the Visual Arts adjacent to the internationally recognized Toledo Museum of Art, this unique program provides students with opportunities to observe, research and participate in the museum’s nationally acclaimed programs for children and young people.Artistry and craftsmanship are central to this program. Students are encouraged to develop their skills in ceramics, drawing, metalsmithing, new media, painting, printmaking and sculpture. You can apply for internships that will enable you to teach and learn by interacting with diverse populations and by collaborating with outstanding teachers. Upon successful completion of UT’s accredited baccalaureate program, students become eligible for teacher licensure in the state of Ohio. Licensed art teachers also teach in charter schools. What to expect when you graduateMany graduates successfully pursue teaching careers in a variety of educational settings.
