Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (Army ROTC) is an elective curriculum taken with virtually any major course of study. The classes teach students leadership skills and military fundamentals. All UT students are able to enroll in the 1000 and 2000 level courses without military obligation unless they are ROTC scholarship recipients. Enrollment in the 3000 and 4000 level courses requires permission from the Department of Military Science and Leadership. Students who complete the Army ROTC program will earn commissions as Second Lieutenants upon graduation from UT, and they will then serve as Army Officers on Active Duty in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard.

UT's Army ROTC program is housed in the Health Education building. The facility includes a complete gymnasium, a drill hall, weight training room, a computer lab and a cadet lounge, along with classrooms and administrative offices. Army ROTC at UT is committed to the success of each individual in the program. Emphasis is placed on academic achievement, physical fitness and leadership skill development.

Scholarship Opportunities

Competitive, merit-based four-, three- and two-year scholarships are available. The four-year scholarship is offered to high school seniors entering UT and includes full tuition and allowances for room and board, books and living expenses. Two- and three-year scholarships are offered to students currently enrolled at UT and include tuition, a book allowance and a monthly stipend. Scholarship recipients must meet age, citizenship, academic and medical qualifications and agree to serve as officers in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard upon graduation.

Army ROTC is for men and women. Thirty percent of the UT Rocket Battalion members are female. Students in Army ROTC study a wide variety of majors from nursing to chemical engineering.
