Carr,
Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the College
of Education. She teaches literacy courses at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Carr's research focuses on developing strategies
to improve the teaching of reading and enhance elementary
and upper level pupils' reading, cognitive skills and abilities, and writing and oral
expression in all content areas. She works extensively with
schools and community agencies and institutions to design literacy curricula in a
broad range of content areas and provide professional
development for teachers. She also serves as a field faculty in Ohio's statewide initiative
to train Literacy Specialists. After receiving a
B.A. in History from Newton College of the Sacred Heart and teaching in the Chicago
public schools, Dr. Carr engaged in graduate study at the
University of Toledo, obtaining an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, an M.A. in
Teaching English as a Second Language, and a Ph.D. Curriculum
and Instruction. Her doctoral work focused on literacy. Before joining the faculty
of the College of Education, Dr. Carr was an Assistant
