Bachelor of Education in Health Education PreK-12

Students who earn certification in health education will be licensed to teach children in the age ranges of 3 years to 21 years. Certified teachers may work in public and private school systems. Various degree combinations allow the student to specialize in varied areas. A second major, teaching or non-teaching, is required for this degree program.

The certification program in Health Education is based on high expectations; each student who chooses to become a teacher through study in this program needs to make a commitment to excellence in teaching in these areas.

Requirements for Admission to Professional Education for School Health Licensure Programs:
Students will be expected to apply for acceptance into the Health Teacher Preparation Program after the completion of 48 credit hours. Students need to meet the following requirements to be accepted into the upper division program:

1. 2.7 overall GPA.
2. Passage of the Praxis I in reading, writing and in mathematics, with a minimum score of 172 on each test.
3. Completion of ETPT 2020, HEAL 2000, and HEAL 2900 with a grade of C or higher in each course.

Multiage Health Education

Students who complete the health education major are licensed to teach health education PreK-12. Students may complete a second degree (e.g., B.A. in urban studies, B.Ed. in community health) or a second track (e.g., athletic training or physical education) for the B.Ed. degree. A single degree program leading to licensure in health education also is an option.
