The Effects of Knee Injury on Brain Function
Supported By: Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association
PI: Adam Lepley MS ATC, Brian G Pietrosimone PhD, ATC (Faculty Advisor)
Description: Determine how cortical excitability of the quadriceps is affected by knee joint effusion and how changes in cortical excitability influence changes in neuromuscular quadriceps function following an experimental knee joint effusion.
Restoring Neuromuscular Function with Joint Mobilizations
Supported By: National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research and Education Foundation Masters Grant
PI: Matthew Harkey ATC, Brian G Pietrosimone PhD, ATC (Faculty Advisor)
Description: Determine the effect of ankle joint mobilization on corticospinal and spinal reflex excitability in leg muscles in patients with chronic ankle instability.
Internal Grants
Spinal and cortical pathway alterations in individuals with chronic ankle instability affecting the ankle and knee
Supported By: University of Toledo Interdisciplinary Research Initiation Awards
PI: Phillip A. Gribble PhD, ATC
Description: Examine ankle and knee joint neuromuscular control alterations originating in the CNS in individuals with CAI using novel laboratory techniques; as well as to correlate these results with established clinical indicators of mechanical and functional instability specific to the ankle.
