Pre Physical Therapy
Pre-Physical Therapy is one of the seven undergraduate concentrations offered by the
Department of Kinesiology. Students who pursue this concentration earn the Bachelor
of Science in Exercise Science degree. Typically, these students plan on pursuing
a master's or doctoral program in Physical Therapy after completing their bachelor's
degree. The Pre-Physical Therapy program is designed to prepare students for admission into UT's
Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) degree program. Thus, the curriculum has been
designed to provide all of the courses required for admission into that program.
Through electives in the Pre-PT concentration, students have the opportunity to customize
their curriculum to meet unique admission requirements that may be needed for PT programs
at other universities. An additional and very unique feature of the program is the
option for students to simultaneously pursue the DPT degree and a Ph.D. degree in
Exercise Science. This option is ideal for those who wish to ultimately pursue a
career in physical therapy education and research.
There are many factors that set the Kinesiology department's pre-PT program apart
from those at other colleges and universities. These include state-of-the-art teaching labs, advanced training in human anatomy that includes experience in a cadaver lab, the opportunity to combine a degree in athletic training with the pre-PT curriculum, and an on-campus rehabilitation center in which to get
clinical experience. There is no better place to prepare for a career in physical
therapy than the University of Toledo's Department of Kinesiology.
