Accreditation Status and Licensing Information
The Occupational Therapy Doctoral Degree Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education; 4720 Montgomery Lane; P.O. Box 31220; Bethesda, MD 20824-1220; 301.652.2682; www.acoteonline.org. Graduates of the program will be able to sit for the national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Most states require a license in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based in part on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Some states might not license, nor fieldwork sites accept individuals with prior criminal records. A Federal Bureau of Investigation background check will be required of all students as stipulated by fieldwork sites agreement. It is the applicant's responsibility to inquire about licensing and fieldwork requirements prior to enrolling in the OTD program.
