Dr. Tevald joined the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Toledo in 2010. He received a BA (Biological Sciences) and Masters of Physical (MPT) from the University of Delaware. After working as a physical therapist for four years, he earned a PhD in physiology from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Tevald subsequently completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Dr. Tevald teaches Clinical Reasoning I, Research Design and Methods, and Applied Biostatistics in the Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum. He also coordinates the Scholarly Project and oversees the combined DPT/PhD degree program offered in conjunction with the Department of Kinesiology. His research interests are in the area aging and muscle physiology. Specifically, he is interested in the impairments in muscle physiology that contribute to impairments in physical function, and ultimately, in developing effective interventions to combat these impairments.
