College of Engineering

Welcome from the Dean

Dean Toole

Committed teachers, hands-on immersive learning, a campus that’s alive with activity – that’s what you’ll find at The University of Toledo of College of Engineering!  Our mission statement reads, “The University of Toledo is a national, public research university where students obtain a world-class education and become part of a diverse community of leaders committed to improving the human condition in the region and the world.”

UT is the one of the best four-year colleges in Ohio for affordability, flexibility and student services, and UT graduates have the lowest student loan debt among all of Ohio's public colleges. Thanks to the College of Engineering’s mandatory paid co-op program, it is not uncommon for our students to graduate debt-free, with real-world work experience and multiple job offers!  It’s no wonder UT ranks as the top institution in northwest Ohio for social mobility.

In addition to our co-op program, which was listed in the waceinc.org/ “Best of Co-Op” category by the World Association for Cooperative Education, The University of Toledo offers transformational experiential learning opportunities. Our freshman entrepreneurship program; senior design program; business incubator, LaunchPad; Engineers Without Borders student chapter; Engineering Leadership Institute; Formula SAE race car team; and makers space provide opportunities for a well-rounded and diverse university experience. Our dedicated professors offer opportunities for research in both our undergraduate and graduate programs.

Our six academic departments offer 22 degree programs in Engineering – 12 Bachelors, 8 Masters and 2 PhD degrees.  One-stop, dedicated student services in every department include an Undergraduate Program Director (faculty advisor) and full-time Student Services Director.  Our student’s success is our primary goal, and has even become a motto for the college, “We recruit a graduating class, not a freshman class.”  Our graduate students benefit from a friendly staff in the Office of Graduate Studies, a departmental Graduate Director and faculty advisor, and an active Engineering Graduate Student Association.

I encourage prospective undergraduate students to schedule a visit, interested graduate students to explore our latest research news, and alumni and industry partners to contact the college to discuss the ways to connect with The University of Toledo College of Engineering.

Sincerely,

T. Michael Toole, PhD, PE, F.ASCE
