Research Interests

  • Design and modeling of passive and active RF/microwave circuits including (but not limited to): Filters; Power combiners/splitters; Matching circuits; Amplifiers; Circulators; Multi-band circuits; Reconfigurable circuits.
  • Microwave filter syntheses
  • Implementation of microwave circuits in various technologies including (but not limited to): Planar; Coplanar WG; Ridge WG; Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW); Stripline & suspended stripline; Dielectric resonators.
  • Computational electromagnetic methods (FDTD).
  • Reconfigurable and broadband antennas.
  • Electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity including (but not limited to): Shielding effectiveness of metallic enclosures; Crosstalk reduction techniques in PCB interconnects.
  • RF parameter extraction techniques
  • Plasma applications to RF/microwave tunable circuits
  • Machine learning algorithms (e.g., ANN) and their applications
  • Free space optical (FSO) communications
  • Medical image processing.

Biography

Dr. Mohammad Almalkawi received his B.Sc. (Hons) in Telecommunications Engineering from Yarmouk University, Jordan, in 2007, his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, SD, USA, in 2009, and his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Toledo, OH, USA, in 2011. In the summer of 2011, he joined Freescale Semiconductor, Tempe, AZ as an RF Modeling Engineer-Intern. From Jan. 2012 to May 2012, he was appointed as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the EECS Department at the University of Toledo and from May 2012 to Oct. 2013 as a Research Assistant Professor with the same department. From Nov. 2013 to Jan. 2015, he joined Directed Energy Incorporated as a Senior Research Scientist. Currently, Dr. Almalkawi is with Qorvo (previously TriQuint) as a development Engineer. Dr. Almalkawi was the recipient of the best Ph.D. dissertation award of the year 2012. His biography has been selected for inclusion in the 30th edition of Who’s Who in the World. He served as a Track Chair for the "Microwave Devices and Circuits Track" of the 2013 IEEE AEMC conference. Currently serving as a member of the editorial board for the RFMiCAE Journal and as an associate editor for the IET Electronics letters. He is also a reviewer for several IEEE journals and international conferences.
