Mr. Marvin K. Himmelein
1999 Distinguished Alumni
Mechanical Engineering
Class of 1971
Marv K. Himmelein was born on April 8, 1949. Marv is the son of Melvin and Beatrice
Himmelein and attributes much of his success to the examples and lessons he learned
from his parents. Due to Marv's dad's schedule as a pilot and flight instructor, Marv
moved several times during his formative years. Marv graduated from Sylvania High
School in 1967. Less then two weeks after graduation Marv's father passed away and
Marv entered the University of Toledo more determined then ever to achieve the hopes
and dreams he had shared with the man who was so instrumental in his early life. Marv
attributes Dr. Rudy Skaboozo, Dr. Bill Miller and Dr. George Pancratz as key figures
in the completion of his degree in 1971.
Marv started his career at Palmer and Associates while attending UT as an undergraduate
student. His first job was cutting the grass and emptying wastebaskets. Marv also
completed his MSME in 1974 at Purdue University. Marve moved through the ranks from
grass cutting to Designer and draftsman, Manager, Vice President and currently holds
the position of Principal of Palmer and Associates. Marv is also currently CEO of
Dynamics Research and Development and General Manager of TechnoFlex Ltd. Marv has
also published numerous papers on Fatigue, Stress Analysis and Structural Analysis.
He also guest lectures on these topics as well as the design process. In addition
to his position at Palmer and Associates he is professionally involved with ASME,
SAE, Pi Tau Sigma, NSPE and numerous other professional societies and organizations.
Marv is also involved in his community through civic organizations such as Sylvania
City School, Medical College of Ohio, American Red Cross and also served as the University
of Toledo College of Engineering Capital Campaign Co-Chair. Marv enjoys golf, cars,
jet skiing, snow skiing, scuba diving, and sailing. Marv's true passion is airplanes.
Marv and Carol were married earlier this year in March and are enjoying their new
home in Perrysburg, Ohio. Together Marv and Carol have a lot of fun with Marv's two
children Melanie and Michael and Carol's two sons Ken and Brandon. In the new millennium
Marv feels engineers will bring a higher quality to enable concepts of rapid change
to be realized.
