Ernest W. Weaver, Jr. - 2004 Distinguished Alumnus, Mechanical Engineering , Class of 1943/54

** Ernest W. Weaver Jr., who was associate dean of the College of Engineering and professor of environmental engineering, retired from the University of Toledo on June 4, 1986.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from UT and his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. From 1952-1956, he directed UT’s former Junior College and later served as a member of the University Community and Technical College Study Committee. He served as the assistant dean of the College of Engineering beginning in 1964.
A number of engineering specialties were taught by Dean Weaver including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, jet propulsion, internal combustion energy, thermal environmental engineering, and air pollution control.
Weaver has served as a consultant for many area companies and the UT Research Foundation on Various projects. In 1979, he helped prepare a plan for energy management in the community.
Dean Weaver is a member of the Technical Society of Toledo, the American Society of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education, the American Society for Mechanical Engineers, and the board of managers of the University YMCA. He was the recipient of a UT mechanical engineering department Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1983 and was nominated Engineer of the Year in 1967 by ASHRAE. He was a former faculty representative on the UT Board of Athletic Control, also serving as a member or chairman of a number of faculty, college, and University committees. He was chairman of UT’s Master Plan Advisory Committee and is secretary of Scholarship Fund, Inc., an organization that provides more than $20,000 a year for tuition to UT students.
