Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

Technical Electives

12 Hours of Technical Electives are required for the BSME. Up to ONE technical elective course may be taken outside of the MIME Department.

Technical Electives for undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering should be selected with a good deal of thought. Please see your adviser for input on this important decision.

Approved Technical Electives for Mechanical Engineering

  • Any 3000-level or 4000-level engineering course in Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME).
  • Up to one independent study course in the area of your undergraduate research for topics of interest where a formal course is not offered. You must work with your research mentor, the undergraduate program director, and MIME Advising team for the approval and creation of this course.
  • Up to one of the following:
    • Any 3000-level or 4000-level engineering course in the departments of Bioengineering (BIOE), Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CHEE), Civil Engineering (CIVE), Electrical and Computer Science Engineering (EECS).
      • Note: Courses in the Engineering Technology program are not approved as technical electives in ME.
    • Any 3000-level or 4000-level course in Mathematics (MATH), Biology (BIOL), Chemistry (CHEM) or Physics (PHYS), or
    • Any of the business 3000-level or 4000-level courses that students taking the business minor are required to take

EXCEPTIONS:

Credit will not be granted for an equivalent course already taken at another university.

Credit will not be granted for a course that is essentially the same as a required course. An example is the Senior Design Projects course offered by another department.
