In conjunction with the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Polymer Institute offers both a Masters in Chemical Engineering with a Polymer Option and a Doctorate in Engineering with a Polymer Option.

Program Details

College of Engineering and Departmental Affiliation

The Polymer Institute of The University of Toledo is affiliated with the College of Engineering, although faculty members and graduate students from other academic departments and colleges may pursue research, development and educational projects through the Institute.

The Department of Chemical Engineering offers graduate courses and conducts research in the areas of transport phenomena, thermodynamics, kinetics and reactor design, separation processes, biochemical and biomedical engineering, process dynamics and control, process design and optimization, polymer science and engineering, colloid and surface phenomena, paper science and technology, and pollution control and waste disposal

Polymer Option Courses

A Polymer Option was established within the Chemical Engineering Department in the fall of 1989. Polymer Institute and Chemical Engineering Department faculty teach the courses. Students with backgrounds in areas other than Chemical Engineering may incorporate some of these courses in an M.S. or Ph.D. program.

The following polymer courses are offered through the Polymer Institute. These courses are in addition to those required for a M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering:

  • ChEE 4800 / 5800 / 7800 - Polymer Science and Engineering
  • ChEE 6810 / 8810 - Physical Chemistry of Polymers
  • ChEE 6840 / 8840 - Polymer Processing
  • ChEE 6860 / 8860 - Polymer Laboratory Methods
  • ChEE 6830 / 8830 - Transport in Plastics
