Our core value is to provide the customer a positive first impression of The University of Toledo campuses. To ensure a safe, clean, and friendly environment, work in balance with nature and remain flexible during inclement weather.
Grounds consists of the following three units.
As a part of the Facilities & Construction Team, the Grounds Office is located in the Grounds and Fleet building at the Main campus, the Facilities Support Building at the Health Science Campus, and in the NASC building at Scott Park. Grounds' responsibility is to maintain the grounds at all three campuses. These responsibilities and duties include:
- Turf - Mowing, edging, leaf removal, fertilization, insect/disease control, irrigation, maintaining various irrigation systems, over-seeing, intramural, and athletic fields.
- Flower Beds - Clean-up, mulching, edging, weeding, watering, fertilization, planting, and insect/disease control.
- Pruning - All native and ornamental trees, shrubs and ground covers. Done both to remove dead or damaged branches and to retain shape.
- Campus Clean-up - Litter control, sweeping streets
- Snow Removal - Remove snow or ice from 23 miles of roads, 30 miles of walks, and parking areas.
- Exterior Maintenance - Clean sculptures, inspect campus for hazards, wash hard surfaces, repair bricks, paint, and clean tables.
- Special Events - 5-K run, tree dedications, plaques, community projects, orientation, graduation, Art in the Mall, student events, and sports events.
This is all currently accomplished with eight groundskeepers on Main campus, two groundskeepers at Scott Park, and four at the Health Science Campus. There are 877 acres between all three campuses. This is the equivalent of maintaining 551.2 residential yards per groundskeeper each week. The beauties of the University of Toledo campuses are a real asset to the University and the community. Also, the grounds are consistently listed as one of the reasons why students, patients and guests decide to come to The University of Toledo.
