Dr. Mounika Polavarapu serves as assistant professor within the School of Population Health. She received her doctoral degree in Epidemiology and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She obtained her medical degree from India. Before joining the University of Toledo, Dr. Polavarapu has served as M.P.H. Program Coordinator at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for three years, teaching, advising, and mentoring graduate public health students.

Her primary research interests are in the area of maternal and child health focusing on disease etiologies and improving the health and wellbeing of women, infants, children, and adolescents. She has been involved in various research projects including but not limited to barriers, concerns, successes, and risks of fertility preservation in girls and women of reproductive age with cancer; different interactions among risk factors in predicting cardiovascular risk by gender; diagnostic markers for childhood asthma, late effects and risky behaviors among childhood cancer survivors, and training of primary care physicians about caring for breast cancer survivors.
