Head Athletic Trainer

Brian Jones was hired in August 1997 as an assistant athletic trainer at The University of Toledo and promoted to associate athletic trainer in 1998. He was named head athletic trainer in January, 2009, upon the retirement of long time head athletic trainer David Huffstetler. He supervises health care provided to the men's basketball, and all other teams at UT except football. His duties also include coordination of travel for men's basketball and clinical supervision of athletic training students.
A native of LaPorte, Indiana and a graduate of LaPorte High School, Jones holds a Bachelor of Science degree from MAC rival Ball State University. While at BSU, he was part of the 1995 MAC Championship basketball team and a NCAA tournament participant. In 1997, he received his Master of Science degree from Michigan State University. While a part of Spartan athletics, he assisted the sports medicine staff in providing coverage for the MSU football squad. He also wrote the operations manual for the football athletic training graduate assistants.
Brian was certified by the BOC, Inc. in 1995 and licensed by the State of Ohio in 1997. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, and the Mid-American Conference Sports Medicine Association. Brian played an active role in the renovation of the Savage Hall Athletic Training Facility and the merger of the sports medicine programs with the University of Toledo College of Medicine, formerly Medical University of Ohio at Toledo.
In his spare time, Brian enjoys playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He is married to the former Kim D'Angelo, an ex-UT basketball player. They have a son, Zack, born March 5, 2003 and a daughter, Avery, born March 27, 2007.
